Are you ready to sell your home?
Here are a few signs you may be ready, inspired by Dayna Tooley’s article in Better Homes and Gardens.
1. Growing or shrinking household
Are you having a new baby? Adopting? Fostering? Maybe you’re taking in your newly retired parents, or your brother and his family who just moved to the area looking for a new house.
How about the opposite. You’re about to be empty-nesters. Maybe your kids are going to college or finally out of the basement!
If you’ve outgrown your cramped space, or your space has outgrown you, it’s time to sell.
2. Plenty of home equity
(The amount you have left on your loan) – (The value of your home) = Your equity
Using your home equity to use as a down payment on the next home is key.
3. Interest from potential buyers

List your home when you know the most people will be interested. This could be when the weather is mild or right before the school season starts.
4. Changing circumstances
“Your community needs to fit your lifestyle,” says Tooley in her article.
It’s so true.
Are your neighborhood dynamics changing? How is the area around your home? Did you get a new job? Are your kids ready for school? How are the schools in your area?
Finding the perfect neighborhood is just as important as finding the perfect home.
5. Home improvements
Renovations are a great way to improve the value of your home. Make sure you’re not in the middle of a project when you sell, though.
